Insurance Information

We understand that patients may wonder if dental insurance will be accepted at Meyerland Family Dentistry. We want to do everything we can to keep this normally challenging process as smooth as possible, and that includes working with dental insurance companies to advocate for our patients when we can.

To give your more confidence about how dental insurance works and if we accept your plan, we address some of the most frequently asked questions about dental insurance below.

What Is Dental Insurance and How Does It Work?

Dental insurance is designed to help cover at least some portion of the expenses related to your dental health care. This may include preventative measures, restorative processes, and even emergency procedures depending on the type of plan you have.

If you have questions about what your dental plan will cover when it comes to dental procedures, it can be a good idea to reach out to your insurance or dentist’s office directly. Theoretically, dental insurance plans should pay at least a portion of your dental health expenses, whether that be in the form of a co-pay or a certain percentage of the procedure once your deductible has been met.

At most dental practices, whatever insurance does not cover (whether it be a remaining balance or the full cost of the procedure), the patient will be asked to pay that cost out of pocket.

While every patient’s dental insurance plan is different, our goal is to help you maximize your insurance options.

The best plan of action is to call us directly and verify if our practice can accept your insurance plan at this time. When calling us to inquire about insurance, please have your dental insurance card and/or information readily available.

What Happens If My Dental Insurance Plan Is Not One You Accept?

For patients that have a dental insurance plan that is not accepted by our practice, your insurance will likely require that you pay out of pocket for the full amount of services received.

Can I Still Come to Your Practice Even If I Don’t Have Any Dental Insurance?

Patients who do not have any dental insurance are still welcome at our practice, however, they will be required to pay the full amount for the services rendered.

Is Cosmetic Dentistry Covered by My Insurance?

While it is possible for some dental plans to cover certain cosmetic dentistry procedures, it is generally the exception and not the rule. Because many of these procedures are elective and not medically necessary, an insurance company may not cover a procedure depending on the patient’s specific insurance plan.

If you have a specific element of cosmetic dentistry in mind, like teeth whitening or veneers, it is best to reach out to our office directly with your dental insurance information. We should be able to let you know if your desired procedure is covered by your plan.

Can I Postpone Dental Care Until I Get Insurance?

While some may be tempted to put off dental work until they get insurance, it’s important to note that delaying oral healthcare can put the patient at risk of the issue progressing and potentially costing more to correct in the long run.

For example, a cavity that might have been caught at a routine cleaning and exam at the dentist could progress unchecked without that appointment. Unfortunately, some cavities can progress to such a severe stage of decay that it can negatively impact the tooth structure, cause a serious infection, or even result in the loss of a tooth. In a case like this, it would benefit the patient to keep the appointment and get the dental care they need.

If you have questions about our office accepting your dental insurance, please call us today so that together we can make your dental health a priority.
